Thanks for the input TomD, and will keep it in mind! I did two more drafts, including a third one with tempera wash to soften the line. I was much happier with the way the gesture in the hands, and subtle detail worked on paper. I started to upload it, but had to admit that this one with stronger lines worked better at this scale on the computer browser. (I'll be sending both off to the gallery...) (-:

Baby powder is considered dangerous for little lungs these days, but you can use baby powder sented vaseline! We use the unscented variety.

I guess it depends whose baby it is Sultry Painter Woman? I think nature must be kind. My sense of smell hasn't been the same ever since pregnancy. I'm very lucky. He such a good baby, and for the most part happily plays away with his books and toys while I work. (I tend to feel much less guilt painting while he sleeps though, so I've taken to getting up at dawn.)

Wow, that drawing ROCKS! Where's the powder for that baby's bottom?

I like the stronger, less interrupted lines moreso than the detail lines on this. If you experiment with line weights, try going for a tad more connectivity among the lines and a stronger weight.

But VERY well done!
