This little painting was the view from my studio several years ago. Thankfully, the nice man in the corner store used to let me put food on credit while I was working on my Night Scenes series, or I might have gone far more hungry. Here is a far bigger painting from the same series.

My apologies for not posting more recent work these past few weeks. I thought I may have had a strange flu and have been trying to save my energy for the work I have in process. It turns out I’m pregnant. Luckily, this time my egg tempera work is underway and I don’t have to be worried about lead poisoning from oils. It’s a much healthier medium to work with and use around small children.

I may not be able to blog quite as often for the next year, but I will do my best to update things when I can. One of the symptoms I’m experiencing is akin to sea sickness every time I look at the computer monitor. Pregnancy was more fun the first time when I could get more sleep and I wasn’t trying to nurse, but I know it will be worth it.

Boy does this street look familair to me. I automatically thought Prescott! My husband recognized it too. I’m a former Maritimer far from home. I’m homesick now. Need salty air!

Yeah, I was thinking, “This is Illustration Friday, not Photo Friday”. Wow! I’m really blown away. Great painting, and you captured the night lights perfectly. You are very talented. And congratulations!

Wonderful painting; I love how you used the shadows in your composition! I too had sea sickness from a computer screen for my second pregnancy - but like you say “It IS worth it”! Take care and keep using the egg tempera (although smell or thought of eggs made me sick also…) :)

Fabulous painting - I thought it was a photo for a minute. Congratulations on your pregnancy - hope the morning/evening sickness stays FAR away.

This is wonderful… Looks like Hopper to me (the artist, not the place… if there IS such!). Hope the monitor doesn’t make you queasy for long. Best wishes.

Loverly.
I miss oil painting on a large scale. Now all I seem to have time for is doodling on post-its.

Thanks so much for sharing.

With a close up things become far more painterly. As with many of the oil paintings on the blog much of the painterly detail and texture are lost. This is one of the paintings which will be in the online gallery I hope to have up and running soon if anyone is curious and would like a better look.

All the best, jp.

p.s. Fresh ginger seemed to help with the morning, noon and night sickness for at least a little while today. I should try it again. Also hoping that changing my brand of prenatal vitamins may make a diffence. There are new vitamin based drugs on the market but they are very expensive, and I am still nursing Conor and trying to wean him gradually. I don’t like to take any unnecessary medication especially when it has such a short history, and am trying to see the “morning” sickness as my body’s way of telling me to rest, hydrate, eat and take better care of myself.

Well I hope you’re happy with yourself. After seeing this painting I spent a few hours checking out listing on MSL, and entertaining moving to St. John’s from Vancouver. I even almost had my wife convinced.
