My interpretation of Illustration Friday this week is quite literal, in that this is a very small painting. I remember it being not much bigger than an index card. But the smallest paintings I have ever done are each only about the size of a pinky nail. If you would like you can see them in an earlier post: It’s Not the Size that Counts.

I may not be able to post new work for the next few weeks while we are busy moving. I’m also fending off morning sickness. It was much easier last pregnancy (when I had a boy), and somebody tells me that this sickness is a sign of having a girl. I’m not sure that’s very scientific, but you never know. Once I have a new workspace set up, I’m looking forward to getting back to the egg tempera, and am excited about trying my hand at pastels.

Update: I should have saved this piece for this week’s Illustration Friday word, which is blue. I wouldn’t usually submit it twice in a row, but take it easy on me! I’m pregnant and up to my ears in cardboard boxes. Less than a week to moving date. P.S.: I heard my baby’s heart beat this week.

I like your paintings and blog.

I was told the other wise when I was pregnant with my girls. No sickness for me but I can imagine how you feel now. Hope the stage will pass soon. Take care while you are moving. :)

I almost did the same thing and chose a small painting or drawing, but instead got something out of the sketchbook archives.

Your work is very meticulous and atmospheric. Very nice! I’ll be back to take a closer look.

I love this piece for the dark, blue mood the colors transfer. That’s easy to say on the one hand hand, difficult to render on the other. Anyway, perfect!

I really love this. It may sound strange, but with a first glance, and the title ’small’ I thought ’small’ was in reference to him, the alcholic, comtemplating taking a drink, and feeling small for wanting it so bad. (?)

Small/blue it works for both! Beautiful piece, it seems sad and warm at the same time. A hard thing to do with a cool pallet. Well done!

Maybe small, but dull of atmosphere and with excellent stroke to define what light and where it had to fall. Excellent work.

Sorry for a second posting, but I wanted to reference Martin Hoogeboom’s submission. It’s another one that shows so much emotion and causes me to imagine a background story.
I appreciate that so many real artists share with those of us that dabble. K

Feel like crying … Hope your morning sickness eases for the move. Both Sis and I had it for early term with second birth. She had a girl and I a boy :)

You can really feel the lonliness and sadness here. Very moving.
